Maya to reopen closed cases; Lawyers condemn
Pratapgarh, May 20: Counsels of the district today condemned the decision of newly elected Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to reopen cases taken back during the regime of former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, saying it was against the law.
The counsels said such a decision will not only effect the law and order situation, besides, lengthening the court procedures but was also against Indian Criminal Procedural Code (CrPC).
District's senior lawyers Kanahiya Lal Panday, Girish Chandra Sinha, Rajendra Singh and Veerendra Pal Singh alleged that Ms Mayawati's decision was ''biased'' and ''politically motivated.'' They also decused the CM of using her powers for political vendetta which was against section 321 (b) of CrPC.
The lawyers categorically said the cases were closed only after full scrutiny under the Law of the land thus, the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court should put a stay on the Mayawati government's decision.
