UP electorate rightly rejected reign of crime: BJP
Lucknow, May 11: Asserting that the BSP can never be analternative to the SP, the BJP today said that the electorate of UttarPradesh have rightly rejected the ''reign of crime and terror'' of theSamajwadi Party but adopted the regime of ''corruption and arrogance''.
Admitting that the worst-ever drubbing of the party at thehustings, Bharatiya Janata Party national vice-president Mukhtar AbbasNaqvi said the results had disappointed the party.
Talking to UNI, he said it was a clear mandate against the misruleof Mulayam Singh Yadav but if the choice of BSP as an alternative wasgood, remained to be seen. '' The SP regime may be anti-people but thestate has earlier witnessed the corrupt and arrogant rule of BSP aswell,'' he said.
Reminding that it was the first time that BSP had achieved amajority on its own, Mr Naqvi said it had a bigger task ahead to caterto all segments of society. ''Ab Hathi Pahar Ke Neeche Ayaa hai,'' (nowthe elephant has come under the mountain) he quipped.
Promising to play the role of a responsible opposition in the state, the senior BJP leader said his party was down but not out.
''I urge all my partymen not to be demoralised and look forward tobigger challenges ahead.'' Mr Naqvi, who was camping in Lucknow on theresult day, said the party had postponed its legislature party meetingscheduled for tomorrow to another date to be announced later.
