New Delhi, May 11: The outcome of the UP assembly polls would notonly be a decisive factor in the forthcoming Presidential elections butalso in shaping of the larger political canvas of the country, Leftparties said today.

The top leaders of the CPI and the CPI(M) said Ms Mayawati'ssuccessful experiment of the Dalit-Muslim-Brahmin alliance, which wasearlier the base of the Congress, would also contribute to changing thepolitcial scenario.

Stitching an unassailable Dalit-Muslim-Brahmin alliance, MsMayawati led her BSP to an emphatic victory in UP, giving a body blowto both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),to end years of political instability in the state.

CPI leaders A B Bardhan and Shamim Faizi observed that the UPelectorate had opted for a stable government and they found the BSP asthe alternative.

She had been successful in using the social chemistry that hadearlier been the base of the Congress, Mr Bardhan, the veteranCommunist and freedom fighter told UNI from Chennai. The BJP, he said, had been trounced and rejected by the voters due to its communalagenda." Despite its alliance with the JD( U) and the Apna Dal itfailed to retain its old electoral base." Mr Faizi, editor of the partymouthpiece, New Age, said as the UP polls are bound to have its impacton the presidential electoral college, the secular parties in the stateshould welcome the results in the state and formation of the governmentby Ms Mayawati.

"The secular parties including the Congress and the Left shouldhold consultations for the coming elections in MP, Chhattisgarh,Rajasthan and Delhi," the CPI leaders added.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M K Pandhe said Ms Mayawati's victorybecame possible as she gave as many as 87 tickets to the Brahmins and67 to the Thakurs." This is why the BJP got nearly 40 seats less thatits present strength of 88." Mr Pandhe, the senior Communist leader, said the SP suffered defeat because of the erosion of popular supportbase of the party due to several factors." Two of them contributed themost- namely criminal track record of many of its candidates and thebad law and order situation." The combination of theDalit-Brahmin-Thakurs- Muslims was so deadly that the electoralarithmetic went in favour of the BSP, the CPI(M) leader added.
