Prez pressurised to implement 27 pc OBC quota
New Delhi, Apr 25: A youth body today appealed to President A P JAbdul Kalam to impress upon the Centre to implement the 27 per cent OBCquota reservations. Doubting the Centre's sincerity in getting the quota implemented, the Youth for Social Justice said the way the UPA government hasexpressed its helpnessness before the two-judge bench, ''it is quiteclear that it was divided on the issue.''
The Supreme Court had onApril 23 rejected the Centre's plea to vacate the stay on theimplementation of 27 per cent OBC reservation in Central educationalinstitutions.
A Division Bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and L S Panta, however, said it would examine the Centre's plea for referring theissue to a Constitution.
''Otherwise despite legal luminaries like P Chidambaram, KapilSibal, R K Anand, Abhishek Singhvi and Salman Khursheed, how can thegovernment fail to meet socio-political requirements of the SupremeCourt?'' it asked.
Hence, the forum urged the President to intervene in the matter and ensure its implementation.
