Pakistan gets bitter over Rahul's remarks

Islamabad, Apr 16: Pakistan today was bitter on Rahul Gandhi's remarks about its division in 1971, saying he has only accepted real Indian motives of 1971 intervention.

"This is a clear admission from a civilian, who is a member of the family that ruled India in 1971," foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said in reference to Rahul's remarks that Gandhi family was not one that did not keep its words.

''Once they make a commitment to a cause they stay faithful to it, be it the issue of India's independence from foreign rule, or the division of Pakistan into two or leading India into the 21st century," Dawn newspaper quoted Rahul as saying to a predominantly Hindu nationalist audience on Saturday in Bareilly, in western Uttar Pradesh.

Ms Aslam was, however, not willing to answer more questions on the issue, saying "there is no reason why should we give importance to tatements by such people." She made it clear that situation had now completely changed as compared to that in 1973, adding that Pakistan is now fully capable of defending itself under any circumstances.
