Rahul cannot be Uttar Pradesh's future: Joshi

Basti, Apr 16: Slamming Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was ''the future of Uttar Pradesh'', senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today asserted that a person who was ignorant about India's freedom struggle could never lead the state.

''Rahul can never be the future of UP,'' Mr Joshi told newspersons here.

Dr Joshi's reply came on the heels of Dr Singh's statement to this effect in Pilibhit yesterday.

''How can a person unfamilar with India's freedom struggle be the future of UP,'' he asked.

''Rahul has misled the country with his immature statements.

An example is his comment that the Nehru-Gandhi family was behind the setting up of Bangladesh,'' Dr Joshi alleged.
