Srinagar, Apr 11: Breakaway Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who underwent successful kidney surgery at Tata Memorial Cancer Hopsital in Mumbai recently, was likely to return here on April 22, his aide said today.

In a statement here, a spokesman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference said Mr Geelani has expressed the desire to visit a graveyard at Eidgah here soon on his return to pay homage to those killed since the outbreak of violence in Kashmir in 1989.

He said the arrangements for according a warm welcome to him and holding a congregation at Eidgah were discussed at a meeting here.

Meanwhile, the moderate Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, will hold a public meeting in Sumbal-Sonawari on April 18, which would be followed by rallies at other places.

The Mirwaiz chaired a meeting of his faction here to take a stock of the current political situation and also to work out details for its proposed mass contact programmes across the state, a moderate Hurriyat spokesman said.

He said the meeting also discussed the merger of some parties in the main separatist alliance.
