Srinagar, Mar 28: Ailing breakaway Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani would remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Mumbai for two more days, his family said today.

Quoting Mr Geelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmed Shah, the hardliner's aide, Ayaz Akbar, said though the condition of the ailing separatist leader has shown much improvement since the kidney surgery on Monday, he would continue to remain in the ICU under the strict observation of doctors for two more days.

Mr Akbar said he was in good health after the successful surgery of his only kidney as the other one had been removed in 2003.

Post-operation the kidney was functioning normally and there were no complications, he said, adding the doctors have stated that Mr Geelani was recovering fast.

A team of medicos, led by Dr Hemant B Tondgaonkar, had on Monday performed the kidney surgery on Mr Geelani at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital where he had been admitted following deterioration in his health condition due to kidney malignancy.
