BJP for scrapping of Indo-Pak agreement on terror
Addressing newspersons here, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani said no self-respecting country could compromise on its sovereignty.
He said his party considers the India-Pakistan agreement on fighting terror jointly as radically wrong, since terrorism in India has been perpetuated by Pakistan only.
''On one hand, Pakistan talks of fighting terror jointly, while on the other, it wants Jammu and Kashmir be kept out of its ambit''.
The BJP leader said Pakistan had waged a proxy war on India, after it was defeated on its frontiers.
''Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also blamed Pakistan for the Mumbai terror incidents at the Havana meet,'' he said.
Commenting on the troop pull-back in the Valley, Mr Advani said it would be a blunder even to consider such a step.
''I had written to Dr Singh in this regard. Mr Singh replied, that he was only trying to put in action, the discussions between then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf in 2004.'' The former deputy Prime Minister maintained the whole country is united on the Jammu and Kashmir issue and the centre should convey to Pakistan and other countries, that we (India) would not bow in this regard.
''The day, defence minister A K Anthony announced to form a committee on troop pull-back, five Hindus were massacred in J and K,'' he added.
Mr Advani said talking of troop pull-back would be akin to giving licence to terrorists. ''It would only create a situation in which Hindus would be forced to leave the Valley like before.'' He said the centre should be concerned about the political situations prevailing in Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
''All the newspapers are also critical of India's policy on Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism,'' he claimed.
