Crisis in Karnataka Assembly continues

Bangalore, Feb 19: Crisis in the Karnataka Assembly showed no signs of ending as Congress members continued their dharna demanding immediate election of the post of Chairman in the Upper House.

As soon as the house assembled this morning, Congress members, led by opposition leader N Dharam Singh, trouped into the well of the house and continued their dharna amidst slogan shouting.

Deputy Speaker N Y Gopalakrishna, who was in the chair, adjourned the house for half an hour amidst noisy scenes.

Earlier, replying to an issue raised by Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj on the Cauvery water tribunal verdict, Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa termed the verdict as +death sentence+ to the farmers of Karnataka. The verdict had meted out gross injustice to the farmers of the state. He complimented the people for protesting against the verdict in a peaceful manner.

He said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had convened an all party meeting and the members of Parliament to discuss the future course of action.

The state government would abide by the decision of the all party meeting and initiate steps in this regard, he added.
