India, Pakistan bi-annual border meet begins
Jalandhar, Feb 14: The four-day bi-annual border meeting between India and Pakistan, which begins here today will discuss issues related to civil prisoners in each others jails and inadvertent border crossings among other issues.
The other related issues to be discussed in the meeting between Pakistan Rangers and Border Security Force (BSF) are trans-border crimes, crossing of fishermen into each others territorial waters, drug trafficking, constructions close to the international border, and other matters of mutual interest.
This is the highest level contact between the two border guarding forces to create better coordination and understanding between the two border forces for peace and tranquility on the international border.
Earlier, the Pakistani delegation headed by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Director General Maj Gen Javed Zia was received by an Indian delegation headed by BSF Special Director General N P S Aulakh.
The meeting will be attended by senior officials of the BSF and the Rangers besides officials of the survey departments and CPWD of the two nations and the Narcotics Control Bureau of India and Anti-Narcotic Force of Pakistan.
