Fresh snowfall in Himachal Pradesh
New Delhi, Feb 14: The higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh hadfresh snowfall and Punjab and Haryana received more rains while coldwave conditions continued to prevail in Delhi today.
The minimum temperature hovered above normal in the plains ofPunjab and Haryana, the maximum stayed eight degrees to ten degreesbelow normal at most places, bringing in fresh spell of cold conditionsin Punjab and Haryana.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh reeled under severe cold wave conditionsfollowing more snow in high altitude areas and widespread rain in lowerareas of the state. The cold wave is likely to extend to more areas ofthe state, according to the Weather Office here.
The entire tribal belt reeled under intense cold wave conditionswith the minimum hovering below freezing point. Kalpa in Kinnaurdistrict recorded minus 4.5 degrees celsius.
The 13050-foot Rohtang Pass, access to Lahaul Spiti district andDhauladhar ranges, facing Kangra, also had fresh snowfall intensifyingcold wave in Kullu and Kangra valleys.
Cold wave also swept Shimla and its adjoining areas in the wake ofmild snow and sleet. The minimum temperature was minus 1.1 degreescelsius, four degrees below normal, in the capital town.
Lower areas of the state, including Bhuntar, Sundernagar, Pandoh, Dharamsala, Nagrota surian and Guler experienced rain.
Most areas in Punjab and Haryana were lashed by rain keeping themaximum temperatures below normal by ten degrees at Ludhiana, ninedegrees each at Amritsar, Patiala and Chandigarh and eight degrees eachat Ambala and karnal. The rain brought chill in the air.
Continuous rainfall in Uttar Pradesh disrupted normal life.
In Allahabad and Lucknow, people were posed with problems due toheavy load shedding. According to sources, heavy rainfall and hailstormhas damaged crops. The rainfall has played havoc with the schedule oftrains. All important rains were behind schedule.
In Rajasthan, the weather is pleasant as the cold and rains have receded.
In West Bengal after a cloudy morning the sun made a strong appearance dispelling the gloomy weather.
The minimum temperature took a dip to 16.7 degree followingyesterday's downpour which continued through the night. The minimumtemperature was 17.3 degrees.
The Himalayan state of Sikkim was reeling under cold wave like condition as the mercury plummeted to 3.9 degree.
All areas above 600 feet and beyond experienced snowfall.
Visibility was also very low due to a thick fog cover.
According to the local weather office here a low pressure zone wascreated over the north eastern region following western disturbancescausing rain, fog, snowfall and the cold wave like conditions.
