Brown sugar worth Rs 1.70 crore seized
Srinagar, Jan 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have seized about two kg of brown sugar worth Rs 1.70 crore in the international market.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, S A Mujtaba said while one kg of brown sugar worth Rs one crore in the international market was seized from an alleged drug peddler, Abdul Majeed Rather, during a surprise check in the city.
The person has been arrested in this connection and a case under section 17 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against him, he added.
Mr Mujtaba said police have intensified its drive against narcotic and drug peddlers in the city.
On specific information, the SSP said another consignment of 700 gm of brown sugar worth Rs 70 lakh in the international market was seized from Aijaz Ahmad Qazi and Mohammad Altaf Dar at Chattabal.
They have also been booked under section 17 of the NDPS Act.
