Attempts on for Indo-Russian nuke venture: Parikh
New Delhi, Jan 18: Planning Commission Member Kirit Parikh today said India is making all possible attempts to set up an Indo-Russian venture for setting up series of power plants, particularly in nuclear energy.
Stressing upon importing of nuclear power plants from Russia to fulfil the country's nuclear power needs, he sought setting up of third generation nuclear power plants to produce about 4.5 milliion mw electricity.
Russia is advanced in generating nuclear energy and India needs its technology and therefore attempts were being made to set up this Indo-Russian power venture, Dr Parikh said at an Indo-Russian Business Meet organised by industry chamber Assocham.
Minister of State for Industry Ashwani Kumar said despite being India's one of the best friends, Russia's flow of investment to India are negligible out of its total 300 billion dollars investment potential.
The minister said while India has invested significantly in Russia in the last couple of years, it is yet to attract even a miniscule proportion of it from Russia in terms of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
