India to 'walk out' of Nuke deal if interests are undermined-Saran
New Delhi, Jan 10: India today asserted that it would ''walk out'' of the Civilian Nuclear Deal with the United States if it found that the agreement was undermining New Delhi's interests.
''If at any point, it becomes apparent that the deal would undermine India's national interest, we will walk out, no matter how much political investment has been made,'' Mr Shyam Saran, Special Envoy to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Deal, said here this evening.
Speaking on 'India-US Understanding on Civil Nuclear Cooperation and its Future,' Mr Saran said India had certain concerns regarding the recently-enacted Act in the US which is aimed at paving the way for supply of civilian nuclear energy to India.
Asserting that India would not accept any provision on nuclear testing, Mr Saran said New Delhi would retain the right to conduct nuclear tests.
