Former army chief welcomes Indo-US nuclear deal
Hyderabad, Dec 26: National Security Advisory Board member and Former Army Chief V N Sharma today welcomed the Indo-US deal on civilian nuclear cooperation.
The deal would greatly help the country to harness nuclear energy and meet the growing need for power, he observed, inaugurating the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) National Conference here.
The lifting of sanctions imposed on the country in the wake of the first nuclear tests in 1974, enabled the country to procure nuclear technology and fuel from USA, he said, adding this would help further military cooperation between the two countries in other areas also.
On the relations between India and China, he said China, a leading country in the comity of nations, had recognised the importance of good neighbourly relations with India, a growing power.
He underscored the need for both the countries to engage themselves in meaningful discussions to resolve the border issue amicably.
Lack of political will was responsible for the country losing territory to China.
