BJP to continue opposing Indo-US nuke deal

Hyderabad, Aug 21: Alleging that the UPA Government had not answered the questions raised by the BJP in Parliament on Indo-US Nuclear Deal, party spokesman Prakash Javdekar today said it would not support the deal till the Centre responded to its demands.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Javdekar said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had chosen to remain silent on the total cost of the deal and did not allay the apprehensions on conditionalities imposed by the US, and added that the deal would not help India to generate low-cost nuclear power, he added.

He demanded that the Centre enact a stringent law and strengthen the intelligence network to curb terrorist activities in the country.

Alleging that the UPA has adopted a 'soft approach' on terrorist activities to garner votes and its policies were helping terrorist outfits in spreading their tentacles across the country, Mr Javdekar told newspersons that the UPA must bring a law in place of POTA which they had repealed and curb the violence in the country.

Demanding that the Centre also exert pressure on International organisations to dismantle terrorist infrastructre and network from Pakistan, he said country's security had been jeopardised due to the Congress's communal politics' since it came to power at Centre.

Referring to Union Minister Arjun Singh's statement that reciting 'Vande Mataram' in schools was not 'mandatory', Mr Javdekar alleged that the UPA has adopted a 'disastrous agenda of appeasing the minorities at the cost of national interests'.

He said the BJP would not tolerate opposition to 'Vande Mataram', which was the mantra of freedom fighters during freedom struggle.

He said the party and its outfits would organise protest demonstrations against the Congress led UPA government at national level.
