JD(U) demands stop SEZ, finds UPA confused
New Delhi, Dec 17: Accusing the UPA leadership of being confused over the issue of the Special Economic Zones (SEZ), the Janata Dal (United) today demanded total rollback of the policy, saying it was one of the most anti-farmer steps taken by the government.
''We want immediate scrapping of the policy, JD(U) president Sharad Yadav said and asked the government to immediately clarify its stand.
''The Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, the Agriculture Minister, the Commerce Minister and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were all making contradictory statements on SEZ, which was confusing the public,'' he said.
The JD(U) chief was addressing a 'Chetna Sammelan'(Awareness meet) of his party called against the 'anti-farmer and anti-labour' policies of the government.
Mr Yadav said his party will also oppose tooth and nail the entry of big houses in retail business which was the greatest source of livelihood of crores after agriculture.
''We are ready to fight to the finish for preventing retail business from going into the hands of big companies,'' he declared.
The JD(U) leader said the UPA government was playing havoc with the fate of the country by its confused thinking on economic issues.
He said there was no justification for acquiring the farmers fertile land and giving it to big industrial houses when the country now had an open market
