Rajya Sabha adjourns on Gujarat riot victims issue

New Delhi, Dec 8: The Congress members today made another vainattempt to raise the issue concerning DNA studies matching the Gujaratriot victims for a second successive day resulting in the adjournmentof Rajya Sabha for 15 minutes.

Soon after Question Hour, Mr Raashid Alvi's effort to raise theissue failed to fructify as Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said he couldnot permit the issue as there was no scope for 'Zero Hour' mentionstoday being a day for Private Members Bill.

Mr Alvi supported by other Congress MPs insisted that there was a'commitment' from the Chair to take up the issue on the next day.

The Chair stuck to its gun saying that the commitment was applicable on a day when the Zero Hour mentions is allowed.

With the Congress MPs vociferously insisting on raising the issuethe Chair adjourned the House till 1230 hours although he had orderedthe House to take up Special Mentions.
