MK reiterates amicable solution to dam issue

Chennai, Dec 3: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today reiterated that he favoured an amicable solution to the vexed Mullaperiyar dam issue with Kerala.

He said Tamil Nadu favoured an amicable solution to the issue without affecting the friendly relations with that state.

The DMK always believed that the respective state governments concerned should take steps to strengthen the unity and integrity among the neighbouring states, he added.

On DMDK President and actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth's posture whether the Union Ministers from Tamil Nadu would resign on the issue, Mr Karunanidhi said the climax scene in the film would not come immediately after the titles.

On Vijayakanth's observation that the DMK had failed to get the crucial portfolio of Water Resources Ministry at the Centre, Mr Karunanidhi said the UPA government had adopted a policy of not allocating the portfolio to states involved in river and water disputes.

Refering to the observations made by the Madras High Court Chief Justice on making Tamil as the legal language in the court, Mr Karunandihi said, while accepting in principle, the Chief Justice had said that the government should not take steps in haste without creating basic infrastructure facilities.

''We will take the suggestions of the Chief Justice and strive work in that direction'', he added.
