MK welcomes Sachar Comm recommendations

Chennai, Dec 1: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today welcomed the report and recommendations of the Rajinder Sachar Committee which evaluated the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in the country.

''Not only the report, the recommendations made by the Committee is a welcome one'', he said in reply to a question.

He said some of the recommendations like Reservation for Muslims in Education and employment, creation of Equal Opportunity Commission and steps to increase representation of Muslims in politics should be implemented at the earliest.

Mr Karunanidhi also welcomed the Rathilal Committee which recommended Reservation for SCs and STS in the private sector and said the DMK's stand was that similar Reservation should be extended to the Backward Classes as Reservation was one of chapters in the history of Social Justice.
