'Centre not serious on reservation for Muslims'
Lucknow, Nov 28 (UNI) The Centre is not serious about providing reservations to Muslims, speakers at a seminar on the Justice Sachar committee report said here today.
Dr M A Siddique, president of All-India United Muslim Morcha, UP, which organised the seminar, said the Centre was against providing reservation to Muslims by amending Article 341. ''The centre is not serious about providing reservation and other facilities to Muslims, like Dalits from other religions,'' he alleged.
''By imposing a ban on religion-based reservation under Article 341, means have been shut to provide reservation to Dalit Muslims, which constitute 85 per cent of the total Muslim population,'' he added.
He appreciated former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for trying to get reservation for Dalit Muslims.
Maulana Fazrul Rehman Waizi claimed the efforts launched by the Morcha for Dalit Muslim reservation was the biggest movement launched to ensure equal rights and opportunities for the community.
