Bomb found on track at Guwahati raillway station
Guwahati, Nov 27: Security has been stepped up at the Guwahati Railway station, the site of a bomb blast on November 23 which left four dead, even as a bag containing explosives was recovered from a track near here today.
An alert railway key-man averted a possible accident when he detected a bag containing explosives on a track at Jago Road railway station near here this morning.
Traffic on the track was immediately stopped. Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, who rushed to the site, removed the bag from the tracks using a long bamboo pole.
The bag had three pineapples, an orange, a mobile charger and a pouch that contained explosives. The bomb was later detonated by the bomb disposal squad.
Meanwhile, more closed circuit cameras were installed at the railway station here. Already 16 such cameras were being used to monitor the platforms.
New cameras were installed at all the entry points to the station.
A single entrance, fitted with metal detectors, had been functional since the blast, with all other possible entrances blocked with fencing.
GRP sources informed that round-the-clock monitoring of the closed circuit cameras would be on.
Vehicles, both private and hired, including hand-pulled and auto rickshaws, were being stopped at a greater distance from the station.
