'Self-rule accommodates dreams of people of JK'

Srinagar, Nov 26: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has said that the self-rule formula was the agenda of the people of Jammu and Kashmir as it accommodated their aspirations.

Addressing a day long party convention at Pampore, she said the self-rule proposal was gaining momentum across the state day by day and the people were optimistic about it.

Ms Mufti highlighted the broader contours of the proposal, saying it would go a long way in restoring dignified and long-lasting peace in the trouble-torn state besides strengthening cordial and friendly relations between India and Pakistan.

She said the proposal envisaged joint ventures, constitutional guarantees, free movement of people of two parts of Jammu and Kashmir, using historical and ancient routes for trade besides achieving economic self-sufficiency.

The self-rule formula also envisaged recruitment of 50,000 youth in the Jammu and Kashmir Police so that the internal security of the state was entrusted to them, the PDP president added.

She demanded compensation in lieu of the Indus Water Treaty and declaring Jammu and Kashmir as a free trade zone.

Ms Mufti suggested that the silk route be utilised for gas pipeline and other projects to benefit the people of both parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
