4 soldiers and 1 militant killed in SKashmir

Srinagar, Nov 25: Four soldiers and a militant were killed in a night-long fierce encounter in south Kashmir, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.

He said troops of 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation at village Neeldora, 3 km from Shopian, in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, following a tip-off that some militants were hiding there.

However, when the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants fired at them. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, four soldiers and a militant were killed.

Reinforcement was rushed from nearby camps and the cordon in the area has further been tightened.

The operation was going on, the spokesman said.

A police spokesman said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir from Imam Sahib and Gagran have also joined the operation.
