Militants-army gunbattle erupts near Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 26: A gunbattle erupted between militants and security forces near Pampore on the city outskirts today.

Official sources said personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police and 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), on a specific information, launched a joint operation at Neij village in Pampore area this afternoon.

As the security forces zeroed in on a particular house in the village, they came under heavy fire from militants holed up inside which was retaliated.

The gunfight was on when reports last came in. Further details are awaited.
