Eight more farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Nov 25: Eight more debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Vidarbha in the last 24 hours, activists said.
According to Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, the eight farmers who ended their lives included two from Yavatmal district and one each from Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Wardha, Washim and Nagpur.
With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives in Vidarbha since June 2005 has touched 1,131, which includes 523 who took the extreme step since the announcement of the Prime Minister's relief package on July 1, a VJAS release here said.
