AASU asks ULFA not to mix politics with sports
Guwahati, Nov 23: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has called upon the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to reconsider its appeal asking sportspersons to stay away from the coming national games to be held here in Februray.
AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharrya informed that a meeting of the students body and its sister organization, Asom Unnati Sabha (AUS), resolved that holding of national games was directly linked with the prestige of the state and hence everything should be done to make it a success.
The AASU and the AUS, therefore, asked the ULFA to refrain from mixing political issues with sports in the interest of sports and the prestige of the people of Assam.
The ULFA had asked sports persons to stay away from national games in the interest of their own security. Insurgent group chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa stated that it was an insult to the people of Asom to impose the national games without caring to find a permanent solution to the vexed Asom political problem.
