'Hu's visit to open new vistas of mutual trust'
New Delhi, Nov 22: Noting that Chinese President Hu Jintao has described his visit to India as ''highly successful,'' the Left today said that it would go a long way in boosting not only bilateral ties but also promote peace, prosperity and traquility in the region and the world as a whole.
Referring to an assessment and evaluation made by the Chinese President during their meeting with him today, CPI(M) Polit bureau member Sitaram Yechury said the visit was satisfactory as the two sides had signed as many as 13 protocols and agreements.
Adressing a press conference here, Mr Yechury, accompanied by other Left leaders, including C K Chandrappan, Basudeb Acharia and Rupchand Pal, said the border dispute between the two countries needed to be settled through negtiations.
''We have to sit down across the table and resolve the border disputes relating to Arunachal Pradesh and and Tamang,'' he said, in response to a specific query, asserting that both were an ''integral part'' of India ''even though China did not think so.'' ''So this is a dispute but the neighbouring country has now admitted that Sikkim is part of India,'' he added.
On the lingering border dispute, mr Yechury said this was a ''historical legacy which had to be solved through talks. ''But there is no question of transfer of population,'' he noted.
To another query, he underlined the traditional friendship between the two countries and reminded how China supplied uranium to India in 1995.
''We hope that the friendly ties will be further carried forward,'' Mr YechurY added.
