Muslims need incentives not reservation: Congress
Ranchi, Nov 19: AICC's Minority Cell chairman Imran Kidwai today said the Sachhar commitee, which was formed to find out the social and economical status of Muslims in the country, has not made any recommendation for separate reservation policy.
Critisicing the BJP over its stand on 'Sachhar Committee' report, he stressed the need for a new strategy for upliftment of Muslims.
Coming down heavily on the BJP, Mr Kidwai said there was no need to make any "hue and cry" on the report as it was just a survey and it had nothing to do with the religion.
Reffering to the constitutional provisions, he said the Congress party was also against any separate reservation policy based on religion adding only incentives could be given to socially and economically backward people.
The Congress party was ready for a debate on the issue in Parliament during the winter session beginning on November 22, Mr Kidwai said.
The Sachhar committee in its report mentioned that only 6 per cent of the Muslims' total population were in government job while in Jharkhand they were only 3 per cent.
Accusing the erstwhile NDA government of Jharkhand for this, Mr Kidwai said various minority boards such as Waqf, Urdu academy, Minority finance corporation were not formed in last six years. He demanded the Madhu Koda government should form those bodies without any delay.
