No need for reservations to Muslims: Togadia

New Delhi, Nov 18: Denouncing the Sachar Committee report as an alibi to extend special economic benefits and reservation to Muslims, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today said it would oppose tooth and nail any such move.

No special benefits should be given to Muslims as they oppose Indian laws, deride family planning and refuse pulse polio immunisation citing religious grounds and instead invoke the 'shariat' (Islamic law) every now and then, said VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia addressing mediapersons here this evening.

''Why should the Hindu tax payer be burdened for the benefit of those producing several children without adhering to family planning norms, refusing to accept modern education and refraining from joining the national mainstream for their upliftment,'' he said.

Reservation was fine for the ''historically wronged'' Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes and the OBCs who were subject to injustice for centuries.

''Muslims, instead, ruled for centuries and perpetrated all sorts of excesses on non-Muslims. Giving benefits or reservation to them could be thought of if they subscribed to family planning like all others and joined hands in nation building,'' the firebrand leader said.

Warning the Congress against ''unbridled appeasement'' of the community, the VHP leader said this would lead to a ''Hindu backlash'' and the recent local body elections in Uttar Pradesh were proof enough for that.

''The Congress must take a lesson from this and mend its ways, otherwise it would have to face a Hindu backlash which would be enormous and hard-hitting,'' Mr Togadia said.

Calling for immediately sending back the Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Yuxi for claiming Arunachal Pradesh was Chinese territory, he said India should reject China's claim on Tibet and declare it an independent state.

''Even the 'Panchsheel' had talked about maintaining the autonomy of Tibet.'' Mr Togadia also whiplashed the recent Foreign Secretary level talks with Pakistan saying what was the point in talking to those who sponsored terror in our country. ''Has it ever happened that the criminal and police joined hands.''
