Security alert at Nedumbaserry Intl Airport

Kochi, Nov 17: Security at Nedumbaserry International Airport near here continues to be on high alert although no extra measures have been taken in the wake of the bomb hoax at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport this morning.

Senior CISF officials in charge of security at Nedumbaserry said the alert, sounded over a week ago at airports in southern India, was continuing.

DGCA restrictions, including on carrying liquids on board, were still in place, they added.

Ladder point checks were also being carried out at random before passengers boarded the aircraft, they said.

The CISF's Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, set up recently, was being deployed at the airport round-the-clock and was carrying out 'sweeping operations' every day.

'We are also conducting mock drills to keep personnel in a state of preparedness. In fact, a mock drill is being planned at the airport today also,' the officials added.
