Orders reserved on PIL on Shobha Yatra
Bangalore, Nov 13: The Karnataka High Court today reserved judgment on a public interest litigation, seeking for a direction to the State Government and other authorities not to allow Shobha Yatra and Dattamala Abhiyana by installing idols at the hill shrine at Bababudangiri hills in Chikmagalur district.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice Abdul Nazeer, reserved orders on a PIL filed by Mr K Nissar Ahmed, Shahabuddin Khan and M R Sundaresh of Chikmagalur.
The petitioner contended that as per media reports, about 20,000 people had assembled at Chikmagalur for conducting Shobha Yatra on November 21, 2006. If they were allowed to conduct the same, it would be violation of the Government Order dated February 25, 1989, and the order of the Deputy Commissioner dated February 25, 2006, they submitted, seeking for a direction to monitor the performance of Datta Jayanti and maintain law and order at the place.
