Sensex rises up by 50 points at 13,187.51

Mumbai, Nov 10: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex rose by 50 points and was quoted at a high of 13,187.51, during the opening session today, due to fresh speculative buying support by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), brokers here said.

The Sensex recorded the day's high at 13,190.84 points. It was down at 13,104.98 points during the morning session. The current BSE index is at 13,166.15 points with a modest gain of 28.66 points from it previous day's close of 13,137.49 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) index resumed flat at 3,796.65 points, and later went upto 3,810.20 points in intra day session. But, it again plunged at 3,785.40 points. The current Nifty index is quoted at 3804.15 points with modest gains of eight points from it previous day's close of 3,796.40 points.

Reliance Industries (RIL) was down 0.1 per cent, at Rs 1,259.

Reliance Industries (RIL) said that yesterday its board had approved the raising of USD 2 billion through loans and bond issues, or a combination of fund-raising instruments.

Refinery shares extended their recent fall as crude oil prices surged. HPCL lost 1.7 per cent at Rs 300.75, Indian Oil Corporation shed 1 per cent at Rs 483.50 and BPCL lost 1 per cent at Rs 367.80.

Hindalco rose nearly 1 per cent at Rs 184.50 and Sterlite Industries added 2.2 per cent at Rs 548.

Reliance Energy rose 1.7 per cent at Rs 521.50, extending its recent upmove.

HDFC Bank (up 1.1 per cent at Rs 1029) edged up for the second day in a row.

Software major Infosys rose 0.3 per cent at Rs 2,146. Indian Hotels rose nearly 1 per cent at Rs 150 after the top-luxury chain yesterday said it had agreed to buy the Ritz-Carlton Boston hotel in the United States for USD 170 million.

Foreign funds, who hold considerable sway on domestic sentiments, were net sellers of USD 1.4 million on Wednesday, their first day of net sales in November 2006, brokers added.
