Sensex surges 35.27 points in opening trade

Mumbai, Nov 9: The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index (Sensex) today opened at 13,107.78 points which was 35.27 points higher than the previous close of 13,072.51 despite concerns over the fate of Indo-US relations after Democrats got control of the House of Representatives from President George W Bush's Republican Party in Congressional elections.

The market recovered from a lower level of 13,069.85 points in volatile trading early in the session and reached a high of 13,192.89 points. It is currently trading at 13,125.64 points.

The major gainers are ICICI Bank which gained 1.6 per cent to Rs 796 after its ADR rose 1.8 per cent on Wednesday to USD 36.12.

Software major Infosys gained 0.5 per cent to Rs 2,138, and Satyam Computer gained 1.8 per cent to Rs 423. Wipro was flat at Rs 535.6.

Tata Consultancy Services rose 0.5 per cent to Rs 1,068. Reliance Industries (RIL) shed 0.4 per cent to Rs 1,247. ONGC rose 0.2 pr cent to Rs 857.90.

The major losers included Hindalco Industries which lost 0.1 per cent to Rs 187.65.
