Sealing: Cong Councillors' resignation a sham
New Delhi, Nov 10: Calling the 'resignation' of Congress Corporators a ''sham,'' Congress legislator Bheeshm Sharma today said had they been serious, they should have placed it before the Municipal Commissioner.
On being asked by reporters whether he took the 'resignation' as a drama, Bheeshm Sharma stopped short of calling it so but said it did not merit serious attention as had the councillors been sincere and serious, they would have submitted their resignations to the Commissioner and not the party chief.
Seventy-nine, councillors including 78 of the Congress had sent their resignations to their party chiefs yesterday in protest against the resuming of sealing drive in the Capital.
Stressing that Congressmen be prepared for a long struggle on the issue and take to streets to protest the sealing drive, he said the delay in aproaching the court by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was responsible for this.
''Besides, this was also not clear whether there was no response from the Prime Minister's Office on seeking appointment on the sealing issue or the request was not made at all seriously.'' The Congress should have marched under the stewardship of Ms Sheila Dikshit to the Prime Minister to seek succour on the sealing issue, he added.
On whether he would resign over the sealing issue, he said if need be he would submit his resignation directly to the Speaker.
