Sensex hits brand new level of 13,200 points
Mumbai, Nov 6: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex hit a fresh all-time high of 13,200.52 points in the afternoon trade as buying interest resumed at lower levels.
Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) crossed the Rs 1,300 and surged to a fresh all-time high.
Earlier, the Sensex was up by 66.87 points at 13,197.66 after the market opened on a firm note at 13,155.11. Its low was at 13,113.39.
FMCG major HLL was the top gainer, which was up by 3.35 per cent to Rs 243.40 on reports that the company was gearing up for price hike for the fourth time in the year and was to increase product prices by 4-10 per cent.
Cement major Gujarat Ambuja Cement was up 3.21 pc to Rs 127.15, L&T (up 1.05 pc) to Rs 1,352 and REL (up 1.32 pc) to Rs 517.45 were the other gainers.
Pharma major Cipla rose 1.76 pc to Rs 260.45 after it received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for selling insomnia drug Zolpidem Tartrate in the tablet form.
RIL advanced 1.53 pc to Rs 1,306.60 on 6.29 lakh shares. It struck its lifetime high of Rs 1,310.10, a little while back on strong buying demand.
Auto major Bajaj Auto was the top loser, which was down by 1.36 pc to Rs 2,801, slipping to a low of Rs 2,795.
Zinc producer Hindustan Zinc rose 0.80 pc to Rs 922 after it raised zinc prices by Rs 1,200 a tonne, or by 0.54 pc to Rs 2,23,000 with immediate effect. The company also increased lead prices by Rs 700 a tonne, or 0.83 pc to Rs 85,300, brokers added.
