Sensex opens firm, strikes all-time high at 13,173 pts

Mumbai, Nov 6: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened firm and touched an all-time high of 13,173.37 in the morning trade before it started declining on profit-booking, broker said here this morning.

The Sensex was up 7.55 points at 13,138.63 at 1026 hrs. Its low for the day was at 13,113.39 points.

Similarly, S&P CNX Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) index resumed steady at 3,804.35 points and later it went up to a new peak of 3,817.75 points. But, it soon came down at 3,798.25 in intra-day session. However, the index was up at Rs 3,813.65 from its previous day's close of 3,805.35 points.

Cement major Gujarat Ambuja Cement was the major gainer, up 2 per cent (PC) to Rs 125.70. HLL was up 1.63 pc to Rs 239.35, REL (up 1.47 pc to Rs 518.60) and ONGC (up 1.52 pc to Rs 891) followed.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) declined 0.26 pc to Rs 1,283.50 on 86,190 shares.

Thermax rose 2.56 pc to Rs 349 after the company bagged new orders worth Rs 383 crore for two captive power projects.

Shyam Telecom was relisted on BSE at Rs 72.60 and was trading at Rs 93.25 as compared to its last closing of Rs 60.50 on July 24.

Simplex Casting was down 7.11 pc to Rs 49, CCL Products (down 4.15 pc) to Rs 445.70 and Amtek India (down 4 pc) to Rs 160.15.

As per provisional data, FIIs were net sellers to the tune of Rs 11 crore on November 3, the day when Sensex had risen 40 points, brokers added.
