Apex court verdict "assault" on Legislature: Raja
Visakhapatnam, Oct 23: Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary D Raja today said the Supreme court verdict on reservations was an ''assault'' on Legislature by the Judiciary.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the issue must be settled only by Parliament as it was the apex body to frame policies and laws.
Parliament would not allow populism to prevail upon Constitutional mandate of equality in reservations, he asserted.
About crisis in the farm sector, he said the government must uplift the sector from deep crisis as it was crucial for sustainable growth of nation's economy.
He said the Left parties had informed UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on issues where the parties had serious differences particularly on privatisation of profit making public sector undertakings and allotment of farm land for Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
The Left parties had also urged the UPA Government to table the Bills pertaining to Women's Reservation and Tribal Rights in the next session of the Parliament, he added.
