Sensex opens up by 50 pts, trips marginally later

Mumbai, Oct 17: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitve Index (Sensex) today opened 53 points in the green at 12,981.53, on the back of strong Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) number yesterday.

Earlier Infosys and now TCS, both, have given strong reasons to investors to maintain higher margins on the index, despite booking profits to some extent. Wipro and Satyam are next to follow and it is expected they both are going to perform beyond everybodys expectations.

Currently Sensex, however, is down 45.29 points to trade at 12,882.89 as profit bookings emerged in all the sectors except Consumer Durables and Metals sector.

Major sectoral indices on BSE trading low are Auto 0.42 per cent, IT down by 0.11 per cent and FMCG down by 0.78 per cent. The profit booking is a result of cauitiousness before other sectors go forward with their second qurter results.

The pack of gainers is led by Satyam, which is followed by BHEL, SBI, Tata Steel, Wipro, ONGC, HEro Honda, Hindalco, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank, all up between 0.02 to 2.02 per cent.

Besides, the losers are HDFC, Grasim Industries, HLL Infosys, NTPC, Tata Motors, L&T, Reliance Communications, TCS and Reliance Energy all down between 0.82 to 2.15 per cent.
