Arunachal: Disasters claim 177 lives since 2001
Itanagar, Oct 15: Arunachal Pradesh, situated in Zone V of the seismic belt, has recorded more than 177 deaths between 2001 and 2006 due to various forms of disaster.
Out of the total death toll recorded in the last decade, 87 died in flash flood, 71 in various road accidents while 19 deaths were reported due to landslides from various parts of the state.
Properties lost over Rs 1055 crore was also recorded in the state during the period due to flash flood. During 2001 three districts were affected due to flash flood with 26 deaths reported and loss of properties estimated at Rs 139.10 crore.
In the year 2003, 15 districts were affected due to flood with 43 deaths reported with estimated property loss worth over 410 crore.
The flood scenario in the state during 2004 was more alarming.
Altogether 15 districts were badly affected during the year and 16 people died in flood. Properties worth over 505 crore had been damaged.
The worst affected districts were Papumpare, Lohit, Dibang Valley, West Siang, Upper Siang, Upper Subansiri, East Kameng and Changlang.
