MP: Jagdish Shukla files nomination in Malehra
Bhopal, Oct 9: Samajwadi Party nominee Choudhary Muzzafar Salim today filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha byelection in Vidisha, while Chhatarpur District Congress Committee President Jagdish Shukla filed his papers for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly byelection from Malehra, vacated by Bhartiya Jan Shakti leader Uma Bharti.
Mr Salim is state General Secretary of his party.
Though the Congress is yet to declare its candidates for both seats, Mr Shukla, considered close to Congress General Secretary Satyavrat Chaturvedi, filed his papers in anticipation of party nomination. The party is likely to declare its candidates in a day or two as October 13 is the last date for filing of nominations, party sources said.
Mr Shukla unsuccessfully contested the previous Assembly election from Malehra bagging 29,000 votes, while his main rival Uma Bharti, then BJP nominee, netted a total of 61,000 votes. The BJS is also yet to announce its candidates.
The BJP has declared former CPI legislator Kapoor Chand Ghuwara as its nominee from Malehra. He had joined BJP recently after quitting Congress, which he joined after long innings in CPI.
The BJP has fielded state PHE Minister Rampal Singh as its candidate for Vidisha seat, vacated by Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan on his election to the Assembly after becoming Chief Minister in November last year.
