Nominations yet to be filed in for MP bypoll

Bhopal, Oct 7: No nomination was filed till today for the October 30 by-election in Vidisha Lok Sabha and Malehra Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, state election office said.

The last date for filing of nominations, which opened yesterday, is October 13.

BJP has nominated state public health engineering minister Rampal Singh and former CPI MLA Kapoor Chand Guwara as its candidates for Vidisha and Malehra constituencies respectively.

Congress and Bhartiya Jan Shakti are yet to declare their candidates.

Vidisha seat, held by Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan for five terms, fell vacant as he resigned upon his election to the Assembly after becoming Chief Minister in November last year.

Malehra constituency in Chhatarpur district is the home turf of Bhartiya Jan Shakti founder Uma Bharti, who resigned the seat after her expulsion from BJP. Mr Guwara joined BJP recently after a brief sojourn in Congress and snapping links with CPI long back. He was a legislator in the early 80s.

Mr Varun Gandhi was a claimant for BJP ticket in Vidisha, but Mr Rampal Singh was preferred for being a local candidate, party sources said. He represents Udaypura (Raisen), an Assembly segment of Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.
