No comment on Afzal Guru or self-rule: Azad
Jammu, Oct 9: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today refused to speak on capital punishment awarded to Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Mohammad Afzal Guru or People Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti's self-rule.
After inaugurating the Janana Park at the Secretariat Complex here, Mr Azad talking to mediapersons said, ''Please, no political questions. I would not say a single word on these two issues. I came here to gift Janana Park to the women of Jammu on the eve of Karwa Chauth.'' Last week, the Chief Minister had advocated clemency to Afzal, but the Congress High Command on the very next day, termed his comment as his personal opinion.
Earlier, Mr Azad, along with cabinet colleagues Mangat Ram Sharma and Gulchain Singh Chark, inaugurated the Janana Park this morning and appealed to the women to maintain this park properly.
''This Historic Janana Park and club, which was founded and built up by Maha Rani Tara Devi, was converted into parking for vehicle of security forces during long period of militancy. The maintenance of any public buildings or gardens is very difficult. I home it will be preserved properly,'' he said.
The reconstruction cost of the Janana Park was estimated about Rs 62 lakhs the work was completed within eight months.
