Togadia appeals to Kalam to reject clemency

Hyderabad, Oct 9: Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International General Secretary Praveen Togadia today appealed President A P J Abdul Kalam to reject the mercy plea of the family members of Afzal Guru, who was sentenced to death in Parliament attack case.

Addressing the press here, Mr Togadia said Afzal should be hanged to death as per the Supreme Court judgement, on October 20 without considering the clemency appeals from different organisations. ''The attack on Parliament was an attack on the people of India'', he said.

Alleging that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad's support for Afzal's clemency would only help escalate the terrorist activities, Mr Togadia said the citizens who were supporting mercy for Afzal should be prosecuted.

The Centre should ban Jamait-e-Islami which was seeking pardon on Afzal, he said. VHP would organise nation-wide dharnas, if Afzal was not hanged to death on October 20, he warned.
