EU opposed to Afzal Guru's capital punishment

New Delhi, Oct 9: As the nation debates whether Afzal Guru should be sent to the gallows for his alleged involvement in the December 11,2001, terrorist attack on Parliament, the European Union (EU) today said it was firmly opposed to capital punsihment to anyone.

''In principle, we are against capital punishment,'' Finnish Ambassador to India Asko Numminen told reporters here, without elaborating further.

Finland currently holds the Presidency of the EU.
