Akola, Oct 8: Dengue has claimed three lives so far in western Vidarbha, official sources said today.

The death toll has risen to three in bordering Buldana district following the death of one Mrs Baby Khatyal, a resident of Shelgaon village on October 5th, district civil surgeon Dr Ghorpade said. A separate ward has been openned to treat patients suffering from dengue, he added.

The district civil surgeon of Akola Dr Arun Thosar claimed that Akola district is currently free from dengue. Not a single case has been detected here, he asserted.

However, private hospital sources said that some patients reportedly suffering from dengue have been admitted there.

According to reports received from Yeotmal, one Ajay Jairam Wankhede (10), and Rukmi Tukaram Panday (7), residents of village Bothagayan, succumbed to dengue yesterday at the Vasantrao Naik Govt Medical College at Yeotmal.
