'AIADMK Govt was callous to chikungunya alerts'
Chennai, Oct 5: Union Health Minister and PMK Leader Anbumani Ramadoss today accused the previous AIADMK Government of failing to inititate steps to prevent the outbreak of chikungunya.
Launching his party's campaign for local body polls here, Dr Ramadoss said the Centre had sent several circulars alerting the state Goverment on the outbreak of the disease caused by a particular variety of mosquito. ''But the government failed to act on it,'' he claimed.
Even before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in May this year, the Centre had sent two circulars but there was no response from the state Government, he alleged.
''This callous attitude of the Government resulted in the outbreak of the disease,'' he claimed.
Appealing to voters to elect the DMK-led DPA candidates in the civic polls, Dr Ramadoss claimed if the DPA candidates were elected, they would be able to meet the Minister concerned and redress the grievances of the people.
This would not be possible for the AIADMK candidates. Even if they tried to meet the state ministers and mayors of the ruling party, they would be immediately sacked by the party high command, he claimed.
