'S Korea steps up alert on North nuclear test'

Seoul, Oct 3: South Korea has stepped up a security alert after North Korea today said it would conduct a nuclear test in the future, an official said.

The measure was announced after a meeting of senior officials headed by President Roh Moo-hyun's chief national security adviser, the official said adding security-related ministers would meet on Wednesday morning.

''The government has strengthened situational checks and alert measures under prepared response guidelines,'' the official, who asked not to be named, said.
