Congressmen seek probe into kins wealth of HDK

New Delhi, Sept 22: Senior Congress leaders of Karnataka today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order a CBI probe into the charges levelled by BJP legislator Janardhana Reddy against the family members of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The delegation consisting of Karnataka Pradesh Congress President M Mallikarjun Kharge, former Deputy C M Siddaramaiah, senior state leaders R V Deshpande, R L Jalappa, B L Shankar, D K Shivakumar and H M Revanna apprised the Prime Minister about the revelations and release of compact discs made by the suspended BJP legislator and also corresponding 'documentary evidences' about the family members investing over Rs 100 crore in various real estate deals and purchase of agricultural lands violating Land Reforms Act, Income Tax law, Banking regulation, forest and Mining Acts.

Talking to newspersons after a half and hour meeting, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the acqusitions were all made after Mr Swamy became the Chief Minister and the and family members of the Chief Minister had 'amassed wealth' disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The Judicial Probe ordered by the state government may be good for making future policies but it could not prosecute the offenders.

Hence the CBI probe is needed, they said.

The leaders also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and several Union Ministers including the Home Minister, the Law Minister and Department of Personnel to press for their demand in the last two days.

Asked about the Prime Minister's reaction, Mr Siddaramaiah said he has assured to consider our memorandum with 'all seriousness'.

The party would build up pressure against the government by taking the issue before the people, he added.

The party will also meet President A P J Abdul Kalam on the issue, he said.
